A day old abandoned baby boy has been rescued from a drainage
channel on Holy Timothy Street Aboru, Agbado Oke – Odo, LCDA, Lagos, Nigeria.
According
to Mrs Ronke Balogun, a petty trader whose shop is almost directly opposite the
drainage where the baby was found last Friday, September 19, 2014; “a male
passer-by who heard the baby crying called my attention to the spot where I
found the baby wrapped in a window blind.”
She further revealed that she immediately picked up the baby
and took him to a nearby church, Holy Timothy K&S Church, Aboru located
about twenty metres to where the day old baby was found and handed him over to
a female member of the chruch, Prophetess Shola Adesanya who cleaned him (the
baby) up.
While speaking with P.M.NEWS,
Prophetess Adesanya explained that the baby was brought into the church at
about 5pm but said the baby was delivered at about midday.
The General Overseer of the church, Prophet Johnson Elijah,
who facilitated the immediate procurement of all necessary baby needs,
confirmed the incident but declined to speak further on the issue.
Meanwhile, the abandoned baby was taken to the juvenile
section of Oke – Odo Police Division on Saturday.
The Head of the Section, Inspector Toyin Akorede disclosed
that the baby has been transferred to Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC)
headquarters at Alakara, Mushin, Lagos.
However, a couple of residents and sympathisers who do not want
their identities revealed said they know who the suspected mother of the baby
is, and promised to reveal her identity to law enforcement agents.
